As part of the fed­eral and state pro­gram for the advance­ment of junior schol­ars, Tech­nis­che Uni­versität Ber­lin, Fac­ulty I, Human­it­ies and Edu­ca­tional Sci­ences, cur­rently has a vacancy at the Insti­tute of Voca­tional Edu­ca­tion and Work Stud­ies for a ten­ure track pro­fess­or­ship, remu­ner­a­tion group W1, fixed term, to be con­tin­ued as a life­time pro­fess­or­ship, remu­ner­a­tion group W3 in "Didactics in the field of Build­ing – Design – Envir­on­ment".

This pro­fess­or­ship should be seen in the con­text of Tech­nis­che Uni­versität Ber­lin’s goal to recruit and advance junior schol­ars in the early stage of their career. The ten­ure track pro­fess­or­ship is ini­tially lim­ited to three years. The pos­i­tion shall be renewed for a fur­ther three years con­di­tional upon the pos­tholder’s per­form­ance and agree­ment. After six years, as a rule, a lifelong pro­fess­or­ship will be offered con­di­tional upon the ful­fill­ment of the determ­ined eval­u­ation cri­teria and hir­ing require­ments for a lifelong pro­fess­or­ship. Work­ing field:

The pro­fess­or­ship "Didactics in the field of Build­ing – Design – Envir­on­ment" shall be rep­res­en­ted in its full research and teach­ing area of teach­ing related Bach­elor and Mas­ter study pro­grams. The research top­ics include the:
  • cur­riculum and pro­fes­sional field,
  • voca­tional didactic teach­ing,
  • action ori­ented learn­ing,
  • spe­cific voca­tional edu­ca­tion and train­ing (VET).

Research top­ics should con­sider the fol­low­ing pri­or­it­ies for the domain Build­ing – Design – Envir­on­ment:

  • voca­tional edu­ca­tion and train­ing for sus­tain­able devel­op­ment
  • digit­iz­a­tion of pro­fes­sional work and edu­ca­tion
  • inter­na­tion­al­iz­a­tion of work and voca­tional edu­ca­tion and train­ing,
  • gender and diversity cov­er­ing issues of migra­tion, integ­ra­tion, het­ero­gen­eity, lan­guage edu­ca­tion,
  • teacher edu­ca­tion in the spe­cific dis­cip­line of build­ing - design - envir­on­ment.

The ten­ure track pro­fess­or­ship is asso­ci­ated with 4 hours of lec­tures and sem­inars per week in the first three years, and 6 hours per week after interim eval­u­ation in the fourth to sixth year. Lec­tures have to be con­duc­ted primar­ily in the Mas­ter's and Bach­elor's degree pro­grams of the assigned pro­fes­sional fields.

Require­ments:

The can­did­ate must ful­fill the hir­ing require­ments pur­su­ant to Sec­tion 102c Ber­lin State Higher Edu­ca­tion Act in com­bin­a­tion with Sec­tion 102a Ber­lin State Higher Edu­ca­tion Act. Of par­tic­u­lar import­ance are a uni­versity degree, a strong aptitude for research demon­strated, as a rule, by an out­stand­ing doc­tor­ate in didactics of one of the assigned pro­fes­sional fields (con­struc­tion tech­no­logy, color tech­no­logy and interior design, agri­cul­ture, wood tech­no­logy etc.) or a related sub­ject as well as teach­ing skills demon­strated by a teach­ing port­fo­lio (for fur­ther inform­a­tion about the port­fo­lio, see Tech­nis­che Uni­versität Ber­lin’s web­site, https://www.tu-berlin.de/menue/university_institutions/executive_board/projekte_des_praesidiums/neuberufene/berufungsportal/applying_for_a_professorship/teaching_portfolio/parameter/de/ or quick access 144242). Rel­ev­ant prac­tical exper­i­ence in voca­tional schools and in teacher train­ing as well as in the acquis­i­tion and imple­ment­a­tion of third-party fun­ded pro­jects are wel­come.

Tech­nis­che Uni­versität Ber­lin expects its pro­fess­ors to be able to assume respons­ib­il­ity for the man­age­ment and stra­tegic devel­op­ment of their field and their employ­ees. This also includes com­mit­ment to the pro­mo­tion of young sci­ent­ists and women, gender and diversity com­pet­ence in the sense of cre­at­ing diversity-sens­it­ive work­ing and study con­di­tions and set­ting impulses in research and teach­ing, as well as par­ti­cip­a­tion in aca­demic self-admin­is­tra­tion. Inter­dis­cip­lin­ary cooper­a­tion, ini­ti­at­ives in sci­ence com­mu­nic­a­tion as well as in know­ledge or tech­no­logy trans­fer are wel­come. As an inter­na­tion­ally pro­filed uni­versity, we require good know­ledge of Eng­lish and also expressly wel­come applic­a­tions from non-Ger­man-speak­ing research­ers who are will­ing to learn the Ger­man lan­guage soon.
