OFFER DESCRIPTION

Our group is ultimately interested in deciphering the mechanisms that control cell cycle progression and, specifically, the regulatory events controlling the G1-to-S transition of the cell cycle in mitosis and meiosis. The candidate will characterize the regulation of the yeast MBF complex, which is the functional homolog of human RB-E2F, through alternative CDKs. The exact knowledge of how the MBF complex is activated or repressed will help to understand not only the regulation of the G1-to-S transition in fission yeast, but also will help to improve our knowledge and understanding of the “restriction point” in mammalian cells. We plan to tackle this project from different approximations, including the use of some genetically-encoded fluorescent reporters to measure cell cycle progression that have developed in our lab.

As a consequence of developing a multidisciplinary project, a solid background in Genetics, Cell Biology and Molecular Biology is a requirement to carry out this project; previous work with yeast and/or cell cycle is not required, but will be a plus. Our group and the Department will also be involved in the candidate’s career development.

Eligibility criteria

The Marie Sklodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowships scheme (MSCA-PD) is a prestigious European funding programme that supports mobility, career development, and training within and beyond Europe. The scheme offers highly competitive salary and research costs. MSCA-PD involves a joint application between the researcher and the Universitat Pompeu Fabra.

All expressions of interest must meet the eligibility criteria of the scheme:

  • applicants must have a Ph.D. by the call's deadline (September 9, 2021);
  • applicants must be within the first 8 years of experience after having the PhD (maternity and paternity exceptions apply as well as time spent outside the EU -if it is your case, please contact us);
  • must not have resided or carried out their main activities in Spain for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the above mentioned deadline.

Applicants from any country may apply, but must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Spain for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the submission deadline (09/09/2020).

Selection process

To obtain more information about the laboratory and about our research interests, please consult our group’s web page (https://www.upf.edu/web/osccg/).

Prof. Ayte is interested in sponsoring 1 post-doctoral researcher in this call. Expressions of interest must be submitted no later than June 30th 2021 to jose.ayte@upf.edu. The title of the email must be "MSCA application – your name and surname"
