OFFER DESCRIPTION

Kiel University has successfully recruited positions in the Federal Tenure Track Program for the promotion of young scientists (WISNA-Program) and aims to attract more qualified women to professorships.

The Zoological Institute of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at Kiel University invites applications for a

Junior Professorship (W1) tenure track in Human Biology (with a focus on research in biological ageing or microbiome)

with temporary civil service status for an initial period of four years to start at the earliest possible date. This job announcement is aimed at scientists in the early stages of their career.

The future job holder shall be responsible for the subject area human biology with an explicit biological orientation in research and teaching (in German and English). We expect a focus on molecular biology/lab-based research on humans or animal model organisms. Participation in existing research initiatives in Kiel is desirable (e.g. KLS - Kiel Life Science, ROOTS - Social, Environmental, and Cultural Connectivity in Past Societies, PMI – Precision Medicine in Chronic Inflammation, SFB 1182: Origin and Function of Metaorganisms).

The applicant must hold a degree in biology (preferably in zoology), an outstanding doctoral degree, an excellent publication record (according to state of career) and proven teaching experience. Of advantage is experience in obtaining third-party funding and in leading a research project/research group.

According to the WISNA-Program we would like to particularly encourage early career researchers to apply for this position.

Please refer to the recruitment requirements of § 64 of the Higher Education Act of the State of Schleswig-Holstein. After successful evaluation of the first phase of the junior professorship it is the aim to extend the temporary civil servant status for another period of two years (second phase). After successful evaluation and if the additional requirements of § 62 of the Higher Education Act of the State of Schleswig-Holstein are met, the aim is to upgrade the professorship to a W 2-Professorship. In addition to the evaluation of the junior professorship, a separate evaluation procedure is carried out at Kiel University, usually during the second phase of the junior professorship, in accordance with the current statutes. More information can be found at www.berufungen.uni-kiel.de (in German).

Kiel University is striving to increase the number of female scientists in research and teaching and therefore expressly encourages qualified women to apply. Women will be given priority if their aptitude, qualifications and professional performance are of equal value. The university is committed to the employment of severely disabled people. For this reason, severely disabled applicants will be given preferential treatment if they have the appropriate qualifications. We expressly welcome applications from people with a migration background.

Application photographs are not required and we expressly request that you to refrain from submitting any.

Applications with the usual documents (curriculum vitae, list of publications, list of courses taught, copies of academic certificates) including a research concept for the first four years along with your private and business address, telephone number and e-mail address should be sent (preferably in electronic form as a single pdf document) by 12 May 2021 to The Dean, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Kiel University, 24098 Kiel, Germany, (berufungen@mnf.uni-kiel.de).
