SILVER NANOPARTICLES GROWTH IN A POLYMER MATRIX BY APPLYING AN ELECTRIC FIELD: DETERMINATION OF THEIR OPTICAL PROPERTIES BY SPECTROSCOPIC ELLIPSOMETRY

Summary of thesis project

The optical properties of silver nanoparticles strongly depend on their shape [1]. In the case of nanorods, two plasmon resonances are observed. Their positions are directly related to the aspect ratio of nanorods. In this context, we want to develop a new synthesis route to obtain aligned nanorods in polymer layers. The nanorods will be produced by photo-reduction of a metal salt under a laser beam [2]. The innovative idea lies in the application of a variable electric field to generate anisotropic nanoparticles. The optically of these complex films will be investigated by spectroscopic ellipsometry.

Profile and skills required

The candidate must have a MASTER degree or an equivalent level diploma in physics with strong knowledge in optics. Knowledge in the field of nanomaterials and in programmation is appreciated but not essential.
