We are now inviting applications for the position of University Teacher for a fixed term of 3 years. The start date is 1.8.2021 but can be negotiated. The position is located in the School of Management within the subject of management (business studies). The employment is subject to a probationary period.

Your role:

The teaching and supervision tasks for this position will focus primarily on the Bachelor's programme in Management and Organisation. The position is teaching oriented but can include research. The activities in research are undertaken as a part of the research group in Human Resource Management or Strategic Business Development. The position may also include some administrative tasks. 

The tasks are agreed in more detail in the annual work plan. The annual working time is 1612 hours. 


The position of University Teacher requires a relevant Master's Degree and ideally a Doctoral Degree. Further requirements include good teaching skills, experience of teaching at university level and an ability to teach comprehensively within the field of business studies.

When assessing the qualifications of the candidates attention will be paid to teaching experience within the field of the programmes, pedagogical skills and training, the ability to produce teaching material and other merits in teaching. Candidates may be asked to take part in a teaching demonstration. 

The position requires good cooperation and interaction skills, an active and solution oriented approach towards developing activities and good skills in using digital and online content in education.

Evidence of research will be considered as a merit.

Personnel recruited to teaching and research positions are to be proficient in Finnish. However, the university may grant an exemption from the Finnish language proficiency requirement.  Strong English language skills are a prerequisite to succeed in the position. The research activities of the School of Management focus on four research groups: Human Resource Management (HRM), Public Policy and OrganizationsComplexity Research and Strategic Business Development. The Human Resources Management research group is Finland's largest research group focusing on human resources management, and its three main research themes are: international human resources management, strategic human resources management and leadership research. The research group on Public Policy and Organizations brings together an active team of researchers in regional science, public administration, public law as well as social and health care administration. In the field of science, the research group represents administrative sciences. The Complexity Research Group is a multidisciplinary top-level research group focusing on the study and analysis of complex and challenging social phenomena. The research of the Strategic Business Development Group focuses on networks and inter-organizational relationships, strategy and strategy processes, and the service business. 

The teaching provided by the School is given in the University of Vaasa’s Bachelor's and Master's Programmes.

The salary is based on the University Salary System for Teaching and Research Staff. The salary for an University Teacher is based on job demands levels 4-5 (2563-2968 €/month). An additional personal salary component is paid based on work performance.
