The project addresses phenomena that emerge in solid state systems characterized by strong electron correlations. The objective of the project is to explore properties of the strongly correlated electron systems under extreme conditions, such as low temperature, high pressure, and high magnetic field. Changing thermodynamic parameters can in general cause phase transitions in the systems, and at extreme conditions, the strong interactions give rise to exotic phenomena. The candidate will study the electronic, magnetic and structural properties of strongly correlated electron systems by transport measurement, x-ray diffraction and spectroscopy. Main subjects of the study in the project are rare-earth compounds and transition metal chalcogenides. As a part of the project, the candidate will work on implementation of diamond anvil cell for electrical transport measurement.
Completed Undergraduate and Postgraduate Study (Master's degree) in Physics or equivalent degree entitling him or her to embark on a doctorate, and enroll in a PhD School of Physics.
Applicants who have obtained a higher education qualification outside Croatia must enclose the decision on the Recognition of a foreign higher education qualification issued by the Agency for Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Croatia or a certificate of submitted application for Recognition of a foreign higher education qualification by the Agency for Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Croatia.
If the candidate exercises the right of priority in employment according to a special law, he is obliged to invoke this right in the application for the competition and has an advantage over other candidates only under equal conditions.
Pursuant to Article 13 of the Gender Equality Act of the Republic of Croatia, persons of both sexes may apply.
The application should include: evidence of fulfillment of mandatory requirements, certificate of academic degree(s) in physics, motivation letter with a brief description of scientific interests and plans, curriculum vitae indicating the advantages and experience of candidates and contact details of at least one mentor or a scientist from whom a recommendation may be requested.
Applications should be submitted within 60 days from the day of publication of the call in "Narodne novine", the official gazette of the Republic of Croatia. Applicants will be notified of the results of the competition within the legal deadline.
A valid application is considered to be an application that contains all the information and attachments specified in the call. Untimely and incomplete applications will not be considered nor will applicants with incomplete applications be invited to amend the application. Persons who submit untimely and incomplete applications or do not meet the mandatory conditions for the position are not considered as eligible candidates.

Completed undergraduate and postgraduate studies (Master of science) in Physics or equivalent degree. The candidate must be fluent in both oral and written English. Priority will be given to candidates who have received awards, scholarships, etc. for excellence in studies, have co-authored scientific papers, or presented at scientific meetings. Practical experience with topics of the project (diamond anvil cell, x-ray spectroscopy, and electrical transport measurement) will be an advantage. The applicant should be highly motivated and have the ability to do research independently as well as a part of the research group.
