The project is part of one of the most important research lines of the Teaching of Etruscology and Italic Archeology of Sapienza University of Rome and focuses on the analysis of the territorial management methods implemented by Caere (Cerveteri - RM). A detailed analysis of the structuring and management methods of the territory pertaining to the Etruscan metropolis is envisaged, through the collection, study and documentation of the archaeological evidence that can be traced between the ancient city and its coast. These data, systematized on a GIS platform, will make it possible to set up a digital archive that will be available online in open access mode in the Antiquarium of Pyrgi and through the digital infrastructures being built within the Visitor Center at Santa Severa Castle (S.Marinella, RM). The project, part of one of the most important research lines of the Teaching of Etruscology and Italic Archeology of Sapienza University of Rome, provides for a detailed analysis of the structuring and management methods of the territory pertaining to the Etruscan metropolis of Caere, included in the current administrative districts of Cerveteri, Santa Marinella and Ladispoli (RM), through the collection, the study and documentation of the archaeological evidence that can be traced between the ancient city and its coast which, systematized on a GIS platform, will make it possible to set up a digital archive with textual, photographic, video and virtual contents.
Specifically, the project will focus on the historical and archaeological analysis of the territory located between the city of Caere and its coast, an area of fundamental importance for understanding the relationship between the mother city and its military and commercial ports of Pyrgi and Alsium.
Focused on the "land routes" and "water routes", which were fundamental for the organization, control of the territory and the economic flourishing of the Etruscan metropolis, the project includes study, documentation and analysis of the following sectors: the Via Caere-Pyrgi and the related archaeological complexes located along its route, primarily the sites of Tenuta di Zambra, Montetosto and Quarto di Monte Bischero; the immediate hinterland of Ladispoli, with the very important Etruscan necropolis in loc. Vaccina and Monteroni, arranged in such a way as to indicate the existence of connecting roads similar to the Caere-Pyrgi, which led from Cerveteri to the Etruscan port of Alsium, but not yet traced on the ground; the stretch of coast between Santa Severa and Marina di San Nicola, up to the ancient border between the cities of Caere and Veio. The project will involve a series of steps for the collection, diagnosis and dissemination of data. The digital archive produced, aiming at strengthening collaboration networks between companies in the cultural supply chain and research and knowledge dissemination bodies, will be available online in open access mode; it will be used as part of the new installation of the Antiquarium of Pyrgi which will be based at the so-called "Manica Lunga" of the Monumental Complex of the Santa Severa Castle (Santa Marinella, RM) and will implement the digital infrastructures under construction within the Visitor Center of the Museum of the Sea and Ancient Navigation (Civic Museum of Santa Marinella) located at within the same complex, through the collaboration already activated with CoopCulture, a cooperative company operating in the sector of cultural assets and activities and the managing body of the Museum.
