The objective of the 38th PhD programme in Polar Sciences is to prepare students with in-depth scientific competences and original and innovative research activities for becoming experts on topics related to recent and past environmental and climate changes of the polar regions and of the glaciated areas of high altitude/low latitudes sites. The state of the art of the scientific knowledge will be made available for the students for building a robust scientific understanding of the processes regulating the climate changes occurring in the polar regions with an interdisciplinary approach.
Partners are National Research Council of Italy and National Institute for Geophysics and Vulcanology.
The PhD programme in Polar Sciences will form a new generation of scientists, experts and professionals with a holistic view of the polar environments and climate. They will be able to cover leadership roles in the academia, in national and international research centres for dealing with the great challenges imposed by Global Climate Changes in these highly vulnerable areas.
Duration: 4 years
The programme is taught in English.
Candidates will be admitted to the PhD programme after passing a selection process (evaluation of academic qualifications and oral examination also via videoconferencing) according to the conditions indicated in the call for applications.
Candidates are required to have certified English proficiency at least B2 level - under the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) - at the time of enrolment, except for the possibility of acquiring it subsequently, by no later than December 31st, 2022, otherwise they will be excluded from the PhD Programme.
Total number of scholarships available: 6
Gross amount of the scholarship approximately € 75,700.00 (50% increase in the monthly scholarship for research periods abroad and annual budget for national and international research activities - € 1,534.00 during each year- not included).
