OFFER DESCRIPTION

The Department of Political Science and Communication Studies at the University of Greifswald’s Faculty of Arts and Humanities is seeking to fill the position of a

Professor (W2) of Political Sociology and Methods

by 1 April 2022, subject to the State of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern’s budgetary conditions.

The future holder of the position should be a recognised expert in the field of Political Science, specialising in political sociology and empirical methods of political science. Furthermore, expertise in the political system of the Federal Republic of Germany in a European context, as well as research perspectives in the Baltic Sea region, one of the University’s key fields of research, are desirable. Applicants are required to have a successful record of gaining external research funding and must be willing to participate in university bodies. The successful candidate will be required to teach courses for the bachelor’s and master’s degree courses in Political Science, including teaching students to use quantitative methods. Furthermore, the junior professor must be willing to teach classes in English and play an active role in the Department’s internationalisation strategy.

The job specifications are defined in § 58(1) of the Landeshochschulgesetz - LHG M-V (State Higher Education Act): a university degree, teaching aptitude and academic excellence, which is generally documented by an outstanding doctoral degree, as well as further academic achievements, which, in accordance with § 58(2) LHG M-V, are usually proven by a junior professorship or habilitation.

In accordance with § 61 LHG M-V, the professor appointed will be assigned the status of a civil servant (Beamtenverhältnis) with unlimited tenure; alternatively, if the applicant is not permanently available: limited tenure as a civil servant or public service employee. As a general rule, permanent tenure as a civil servant (Beamtenverhältnis auf Lebenszeit) can only be awarded for the first time to persons who have not yet ended their 50th year of life when they enter employment.

This advertisement is directed at all persons, irrespective of gender. The University would like to increase the proportion of women in areas in which they are underrepresented. Thus, applications from women are particularly welcome and will be treated with priority if they have the same qualifications and as long as there are no clear reasons which make a fellow applicant more suitable. Women are specifically encouraged to apply for this position. Severely disabled applicants with the same professional and personal qualifications will also be given preference.

Unfortunately, application costs (e.g. travel expenses for interviews) will not be reimbursed by the State of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

For more information, please contact the Head of the Department of Political Science and Communication Studies, Prof. Dr. Hubertus Buchstein, Tel.: +49 3834 420 3152, buchstei@uni-greifswald.de

Applications with all usual documents (curriculum vitae (CV) detailing the academic career, list of scholarly publications and courses taught, copies of academic certificates, proof of teaching aptitude, overview of completed and planned research projects, and successfully raised external funding), must be sent by the 11/04/2021 in electronic form (in one PDF document) and addressed to:
