APPLICATION DEADLINE15/03/2021 23:59 - Europe/Brussels
LOCATIONBrazil › São Paulo
TYPE OF CONTRACTTo be defined
The project to be developed intends to investigate DNA damage mechanisms involved in the premature aging of patients with deficiencies in DNA repair processes, notably Cockayne syndrome (CS) and xeroderma pigmentosum (XP).
As a study model, induced pluripotent cells (iPS) from affected patients will be evaluated, as well as cells derived from them involved in the neuronal processes and organoids. We are predicting studies with an evaluation of transcription processes, mainly long genes expressed in these cells, and the effects of cells’ cultivation under conditions of low levels of oxygenation. Thus, we will seek to correlate endogenous DNA damage with cellular phenotypes that identify problems related to the aging process. Identification of markers for the process will be extremely valuable.
Candidates must have previous experience in human cell culture, and preferentially iPS cell cultures. Must also know cell and molecular biology; previous work on DNA repair processes in animal cells.
Applicants must send to Professor Menck, via email DNArepaircoregenome@gmail.com, the following documents:
- Updated curriculum vitae;
- Letter of intent from the candidate indicating the reason for interest in the scholarship, with a brief account of their previous experience with the project themes (and declaring their availability of exclusive dedication to the project);
- Two letters of recommendation; and
- A work plan of about 02 pages describing what approaches the candidate proposes to answer the scientific questions of this project.
The selected candidate will be based in the Biomedical Sciences Institute (ICB) of the University of São Paulo (USP) in Brazil.
This opportunity is open to candidates of any nationalities. The selected candidate will receive a Post-Doctoral fellowship from the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) in the amount of R$ 7,373.10 monthly and a research contingency fund, equivalent to 10% of the annual value of the fellowship which should be spent in items directly related to the research activity.
