Job description:
The Institute of Engineering Thermodynamics at the German Aerospace Center (DLR) does research in the field of efficient energy storage systems and next generation energy conversion technologies. The department of Computational Electrochemistry works at the Helmholtz-Institute Ulm for Electrochemical Energy Storage (HIU) on the modelling and simulation of batteries.
Our team models physico-chemical processes in batteries from the nano to the macro scale. We do research on novel battery designs and concepts for electromobility and stationary storage. The HIU is located at the Science City in Ulm and makes with its excellent research an essential contribution to the development of clean energy sources with renewable energy, emphasizing both fundamental and applied research.
For our research in the field of Li-ion batteries, we are looking for excellent and motivated scientific staff and offer the possibility to do a PhD. Currently, Li-ion batteries are the measure of all things in the battery field due to their high energy and power density. To increase battery lifetime, a detailed understanding of the degradation processes is necessary.
As a member of a leading international research team in the field of microstructure-resolved simulations of Li-ion batteries, you will develop models and concepts to improve performance and lifetime. In close collaboration with our partners in industry and academia, you will make an important contribution to the understanding and optimization of this key technology. We offer you a stimulating research environment, room for your own ideas and international visibility.
This research center is part of the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centers. With more than 42,000 employees and an annual budget of over € 5 billion, the Helmholtz Association is Germany's largest scientific organisation.
