MARIE CURIE GRANT AGREEMENT NUMBER861151
OFFER DESCRIPTION
Applications are invited for 1 Early Stage Researcher (ESR) to be funded by the Marie-Sklodowska-Curie Innovative Training Network “SOLAR2CHEM” within the Horizon 2020 Programme of the European Commission.
SOLAR2CHEM will train 15 early stage researchers to fill the existing gap in the European industrial landscape in the area of solar chemicals production and usage in technical, economic and policy aspects. The consortium is formed by 11 beneficiaries including 9 academic and 2 non-academic organisations plus 9 partner organisations to cover a full training programme on scientific, technical and personal development skills which will include secondments in current world leading countries (Japan, US, Australia) to gather the necessary knowledge and implement it in Europe. The ESR position to be filled is:
- ESR15: Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ): Characterisation and mass transport modelling of ion-selective membranes for water splitting reactors
More information about the specific projects can be found at solar2chem.eu/projects
Project Summary
The goal of the project is to gather better understanding of the membrane material properties, which critically affect the efficiency of the water splitting process in photo reactors. Membrane material will be characterized by electrochemical techniques (electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, chronopotentiometry) using two-compartment four-electrode electrochemical electrolysis test cells. The study of ion-selectivity mechanisms will be undertaken, which will enable the candidate to propose a mass transport model across the membrane material. In the frame of this PhD project, the ESR will collaboration with structural studies and research to investigate structure-function relationship and find connections between kinetic and thermodynamic parameters
Candidates
We are looking for talented and highly motivated early career researchers educated in chemistry, physics, materials science, engineering or related subjects. We expect dedication and enthusiasm for experimental research, combined with scientific curiosity and the capacity to teamwork in an interdisciplinary environment. The position is opened with a deadline on 31st March 2021 and successful candidates will start between 1st June and 1st August 2021.

Eligibility criteria
Applicants need to fully respect all three eligibility criteria (to demonstrated in the Europass cv) Early-stage researchers (ESR) are those who are, at the time of recruitment by the host, in the first four years (full-time equivalent) of their research careers. This is measured from the date when they obtained the degree which formally entitles them to embark on a doctorate, either in the country in which the degree was obtained or in the country in which the research training is provided, irrespective of whether or not a doctorate was envisaged. Researchers already enrolled in a PhD programme are NOT eligible for this position.
Conditions of international mobility of researchers: Researchers are required to undertake trans-national mobility (i.e. move from one country to another) when taking up the appointment. At the time of selection by the host organisation, researchers must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the country of their host organisation for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to their recruitment. Short stays, such as holidays, are not taken into account.
Selection process
Eligible candidates will be checked by the recruitment committee of the project. 3 candidates will be selected for interview, and interviews are expected to be held during the week starting on 12th April 2021.
