The research project involves the study and systematic census of Piedmontese religious buildings in the period between the 4th and 10th centuries, to be conducted in the first year in the province of Turin and in the second in that of Novara. Early medieval religious architectures are an essential area of investigation for the knowledge of construction techniques and building sites as well as being a privileged observation point to understand the dynamics of settlement and trace the social changes characterizing the centuries indicated in the Italian peninsula. The research envisages the systematic collection of diversified data relating to the surviving and non-surviving architectural heritage, the masonry stratigraphy and all the other indicators known in relation to the contexts considered that will flow into the Corpus Architecturae Religiosae Europeae (CARE) database in the form of standardized cards.
