ICVS is looking for Researchers for two positions as Assistant Researcher w/ Tenure Track
The Life and Health Sciences Research Institute (ICVS) is recruiting for two positions as assistant researcher w/ Tenure Track.
The ICVS is a research unit focused in fundamental and translational research created in 2003. It aims at improving human health through outstanding biomedical research, cutting-edge medical innovation and delivery of specialized services.
The ICVS is incorporated in the School of Medicine of the University of Minho, strategically located in the Northern region of Portugal, within a fast-growing Cluster of Biomedical Science, Technology and Healthcare institutions. The ICVS is associated with the Clinical Academic Centre-Braga (2CA-Braga), a clinical research site located at the Braga Hospital (serving a population of 1.3M people), that currently runs 1/3 of all clinical trials in Portugal. Also part of the Cluster of the School of Medicine are the P5, a Digital Medicine Center that in connection with the ICVS and 2CA conceives and develops new digital medicine products and services and provides medical services with a digital interface to the population; and B.ACIS, a knowledge transfer interface in the medical field, that aims at fostering that developments in medical research result in products reaching the market, bringing clinical benefits to patients.
The ICVS is organized around four Research Domains: Microbiology and Infection; Neurosciences; Surgical Sciences; and Population Health. Being a relatively young institution, the ICVS quickly strived in the portuguese science ecosystem by having a strong commitment on promoting innovation and a strategy for recruiting promising investigators. Scientists at the ICVS benefit from a young, stimulating, competitive and striving research atmosphere. Our aim is to create science leaders that work together under a collaborative spirit.
Therefore, within the ICVS, all laboratory wet space is housed together in expansive open spaces, fostering a collaborative spirit, inter-group interactions and sharing of common lab equipment and access to shared central facilities. Another relevant aspect is the fact that the ICVS and the School of Medicine presently run 3 PhD programs and one MSc program, thus enabling PIs with a solid recruitment basis for post-graduation students.
The ICVS offers a start-up package, including start-up funds and lab space, in addition to general support provided by the ICVS laboratorial core facilities and administrative offices as follows:
- Start-up funds typically cover general basic reagents (salts, media, etc) and plasticware (pipette tips, conical centrifuge tubes, petri dishes, microcentrifuge tubes, etc).
- Technical support is provided by dedicated staff allocated to scientific core facilities, in addition to administrative support (grants office, project management, IT support, communication and public engagement, safety and health).
- The ICVS has core facilities for animal housing (including bsl2/3), advanced microscopy, molecular biology, cytometry, experimental surgery, electrophysiology, and provides fully equipped cell culture rooms, and a variety of small shared equipment for routine wet lab research (precision scales, centrifuges, pH meters, etc).
- The ICVS has offers the support of dedicated staff at its animal facility and core facilities of microscopy, histology and molecular biology.
The successful candidates will enter a dynamic institution that feeds real breakthrough, promotes innovation, and supports professional and personal development.
The work shall be conducted at the ICVS, School of Medicine of University of Minho, in Campus of Gualtar, in Braga, Portugal.
The positions are open under the Agreement Programme celebrated with the Foundation for Science and Technology (No. CEECINST/00077/2018).
The applications will be open for a period of 30 business days from the first working day following that on which the notice is published in the Diário da República (Official Gazette of the Republic of Portugal). The details of the public notice are also available at ICVS website.
We are looking forward to expanding the ICVS community and boosting the growth and progress of yet another outstanding researcher.
