The MRC Toxicology Unit is a leading International Research Institute within the School of Biological Sciences, University of Cambridge. The Unit delivers high impact mechanistic toxicology research, pursuing hypothesis-driven toxicological questions with a particular focus on the study of the causal links between exposure to endogenous and exogenous toxicants, molecular initiating events and adverse outcome pathways. The Unit's overall aims are to carry out pioneering research which leads to improved health and to train and mentor the next generation of toxicologists. The research environment provides state-of-the-art research facilities including microscopy, Cryo-EM, flow cytometry, proteomics, bioinformatics and imaging.
The MRC Toxicology Unit, University of Cambridge, has a position available for an academic Histopathologist. The ideal candidate would have an in interest in the biology of exposure/drug-induced liver injury or lung disease, with the overall goal of gaining a mechanistic understanding of the direct links between exposure/injury and disease outcomes.
This post provides an exciting opportunity for an individual who wishes to combine pathology-based research work with diagnostic clinical practise. The post will combine investigator-lead research work, with the oversight of the state-of-the-art MRC Toxicology Unit Core Histopathology Facility (which is run by an experienced Manager) and diagnostic reporting at Addenbrooke's/Papworth Hospital.
The facility is fully equipped for digital pathology, multiplex immunohistochemistry/in situ hybridisation methods, TMA construction and quantitative digital image analysis. The successful applicant will hold an Honorary contract with the NHS at the Addenbrooke's site (approx. 20% time commitment), with the remainder of the time spent on their Unit-based Research work, which must be in the area of liver injury or respiratory pathology. Research support will be provided although the post-holder would also be expected to apply for their own research grants.
This is an open-ended position funded by the Medical Research Council, renewable every 5 years.
