OFFER DESCRIPTION

The research is aimed at the study of animal remains that represent one of the most frequent categories of finds in archaeological excavations. Faunas are one of the most important indicators for understanding the economic and social organization of ancient communities, from the Paleolithic to the Post-Classical era. The acquisition of an archaeozoology specialist will provide the Department of Antiquities with a resident expert the for the study of animal remains from the number of archaeological research conducted by the Department and will also enlarge the educational offer The research is aimed at the identification, analysis and study of animal remains from both archaeological excavations and collections. The researcher is expected to have good skills and aptitude in the classification and study of animal remains from archaeological sites ranging from the Prehistory to the Post-Classical era. The main purpose of the research is the reconstruction of the patterns of exploitation of animal resources to understand the organization of the economy related to animals (harvesting, hunting, fishing, different breeding methods, slaughter techniques, use of animals for agricultural work or secondary productions, etc.).
In addition to the knowledge and application of consolidated methodologies in the field of Archaeozoology, the research also provides for the possibility of applying innovative methodologies, such as genetics and the use of isotope analyses. From this point of view the researcher is required to establish collaborative networks with specialists in these research fields at both a national and international level.
The expected result is the collaboration with the research groups of the Department for the development of Archaeozoology studies and the publication of papers on high impact scientific journals.
In terms of teaching, the researcher will support the educational offer of Bachelor and Master's degree courses and provide tutoring to students interested in studying topics related to the Archeozoology.
