The LaSTUS laboratory of the TALN research group at the Department of Information and Communication Technologies, Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona is hiring two PhD students to work in the areas of natural language understanding, text generation and text simplification.
The appointments relate to the recently funded EU H2020 SignON Project for which the laboratory will be developing research in the areas of natural language understanding and text generation for oral and sign language translation. The appointments will be supervised by Dr Horacio Saggion.
The PhD positions we are looking for talented people with a Master degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Computational Linguistics or Machine learning. Experience with current deep learning techniques for natural language processing is a plus. Excellent knowledge of English is required. Mastering of Spanish is considered a plus.

Benefits
For this position we offer, full-time contract (37.5 hours per week), flexible schedule, vacation: 22 working days, and social benefits and healthcare coverage according to Spanish law. The selected candidates will enrol in the 3-years PhD program at the DTIC department for 2021-2022. One of the PhD positions will require the student to teach in undergraduate courses for a maximum of 45hs per year. The fellows will receive a starting PhD gross annual salary of €16,500, plus a complement for the candidate with teaching load.
