YOUR TASKS

 

The MULTIPLES research group at the Department of Translation, Interpreting and Communication wants to hire a part-time research assistant (80%) for the project "Evaluation multilingual website fedasilinfo.be". This research is situated in the field of multilingual and intercultural (digital) communication. The project aims at an evaluation of the use of the multilingual Fedasil website (https://www.fedasilinfo.be) on the basis of an analysis of the current and desired situation by means of qualitative-quantitative research among (1) applicants for international protection and (2) collaborators who are active in collective and individual reception initiatives.

 

The research combines among others:

(a) in-depth interviews and/or focus interviews with applicants for international protection and/or persons who do not (or no longer) have right to reception

(b) screencaptures of user experiences on the fedasilinfo.be website

(c) survey (entry/exit surveys linked to the website)

 

As a research assistant you will take on the following tasks, among others:

- collect and analyse quantitative and qualitative data

- report verbally and in writing (including a final report) to the organizations that finance, facilitate or participate in the research (e.g. Fedasil, other organizations involved in reception initiatives, Vrijwilligerswerk Vlaanderen).

- prepare at least one publication for a journal and/or other communication channel with a view to science popularization

 

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

 

  • You have a Master's degree in a relevant field (e.g. Applied Linguistics, Language and Literature, Communication Studies, Anthropology, Sociology).
  • You are proficient and can fluently express yourself in Dutch, English and French; proficiency in an additional (foreign) language is an asset.
  • You have strong interpersonal and communication skills and adapt your communication to your interlocutors and communicative goal
  • You can work independently, you take initiative and respond flexibly to possible changes (e.g. in the event of COVID-19 prevention measures).
  • You work well in a team
  • You are familiar with the asylum context and/or the social sectors in which this project is being carried out or you are willing to become familiar with these contexts very quickly
  • Experience with qualitative research among groups that are difficult to reach and/or experience with website research (usability) is an asset

 

 

 

 

WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU

 

  • We offer you a contract of definite duration (80% appointment) for a period of max 11 months.
  • Your contract will start on February 1 2021 at the earliest.
  • Your remuneration will be determined by salary scale WM1 to WM4 (if you hold a Master’s degree) or salary scale PD1 to PD4 (if you hold a doctorate).  Click here for more information about our salary scales.
