The Mainz Institute for Ancient Studies (IAW) co-vers a large range of archaeological and philologi-cal subjects, which cooperate in different research clusters (VARM, ZASS, Challenges, GRK 1876, RMU etc.). The department of Egyptology, which has an extensive specialized library and study collection, offers the BA/MA course "Egyptolo-gy/Ancient Near Eastern Studies" together with the neighboring departments for Ancient Near Eastern Studies. Various third-party funded projects and international guests characterize the broad re-search spectrum. The advertised position is in-tended to strengthen the Archaeology of Egypt in the teaching and research profile of the IAW.

Your tasks:

 8 SWS teaching load for a wide range of sub-jects with a focus on Egyptian archaeolo-gy/cultural history/materiality, but also in the field of Egyptian philology (language courses) at Bachelor and Master level

 Further development of digital teaching con-cepts

 Supervision of term papers, final papers and auditing activities

 Scientific support of the Egyptology library and image databases

 Curation of the Egyptology study collection of plaster casts

 Coordination of the student and scientific as-sistants in the Egyptology Department

 Support for projects and events of the depart-ment and the IAW

The position is at the grade A 13 LBesG level, and is to be filled at the earliest on 22 February 2021 as a permanent, lifetime, civil servant.

If the legal requirements for civil servants are not or not yet met, employment as a Research Associate (EG 13 TV-L) may be considered first.

Your profile:

In addition to the general legal requirements, ap-plicants must fulfill the hiring requirements stipu-lated in § 57 of the Rhineland-Palatinate Higher Education Act:

 An outstanding doctorate in Egyptology

 Full-time employment at a scientific institution for at least 2.5 years after the doctorate

 A professional focus in teaching and research in the field of Egyptian archaeology/cultural history/materiality with several years of ar-chaeological field experience in Egypt

 Diverse independent teaching experience in both the archeological and the philological fields, also with digital methods

 Experience in conference, excursion and pro-ject management

 Ability to work in a team and communication skills, also in an international context
