OFFER DESCRIPTION

This project proposes a reinterpretation of the classical art industry beyond the old approach based on a 19th-century scholarly tradition. Key issue : how can we best communicate archaeological knowledge to the museum audience? We address the interpretation of the classical art industry from a historical-artistic, contextual, technical-focused point of view beyond the usual trends linked to the authorship. We shall discuss some relevant case-studies with a systematic recovery of topographic and contextual data in order to draft a new model both for teaching and display. So, we approach Hellenistic and Roman art industry by switching the focus from authorship to production, trade and display. The result will be an idea of a museum of the future that engages, stimulates and inspires the public it serves, and plays an active role in promoting the heritage of the classical tradition within communities.
