OFFER DESCRIPTION
The research environment Old Norse and Celtic Philology has a multifaceted profile, with researchers working in a variety of fields, including textual studies, literature, runology, palaeography, and language and cultural history; the geographical range is broad, spanning the West and East Norse areas, and Celtic-speaking regions in Ireland and Britain.
The Department of Linguistics and Scandinavian Studies invites applicants to submit proposals for PhD projects relevant to any of the fields represented within the research group in Old Norse and Celtic Philology. We especially welcome proposals connected to one or more of the following subjects:
- Multilingualism in North Atlantic cultures (Scandinavia including Iceland, Ireland and Britain), 500–1500
- Norse/Celtic cultural connections
- Runology and medieval Scandinavian Epigraphy from a cultural and/or language history perspective
- Medieval Irish or comparative Irish and Welsh texts and folklore
