APPLICATION DEADLINE07/12/2020 23:59 - Europe/Brussels
TYPE OF CONTRACTTo be defined
The Land of Cockaigne is an imaginary Land that appears in the literature of many European countries starting from the thirteenth century. It is the quintessential happy place, where food is always ready and close at hand. This utopia has attracted the attention of historians, anthropologists and historians of literature. Instead, we want to propose a study on the properly "gastronomic" characteristics of the Land of Cockaigne: products, preparations, tastes change according to the different cultural and economic traditions, deserving a comparative study on a European scale.
Another aspect of the research will be to analyze which specific type of culture these texts refer to: peasant? bourgeois? aristocratic? or a cross between the various perspectives?
Three months of research will be dedicated to identifying the available sources and verifying the existing bibliography. Six months to the analysis of the sources. Three months to the writing of a synthesis essay.
