PhD in Chemistry

A PhD position is available at the Department of Inorganic Chemistry, Comenius University in Bratislava, Slovakia. The position is suitable for a student with a background in inorganic. The standard length of the PhD study in Slovakia is 4 years. PhD students receive a monthly scholarship of 807,50 €; after completion of the dissertation exams (usually during the second year of study), it is 940,50 € per month (net income). The scholarship may be increased based on the student´s skills and performance. 

• What will you do

The research project will be aimed at the synthesis of polyoxometalates of vanadium, molybdenum and tungsten. The prepared compounds will be characterized by X-ray structure analysis and spectral methods (IR, uv-VIS, NMR). The project will be specifically aimed at the synthesis of fluorinated polyoxometalates. The goal is to develop methods for the preparation of fluorinated polyoxometalates of vanadium, molybdenum and tungsten, the study of their structures and properties applicable in materials chemistry.

• What do we expect

We are looking for a dedicated and creative individual with a strong background in general chemistry knowledge and good written and spoken English. 

Preferred qualifications:

- MSc degree in chemistry or a subdiscipline (inorganic chemistry, materials chemistry, solid state chemistry);

- Extensive experience in chemical synthesis (inorganic and hybrid inorganic-organic compounds);

- Experience in working with hydrofluoric acid or fluorides is an advantage;

- Theoretical and practical experience in common spectral methods (infrared, uv-VIS and NMR spectroscopy).
