OFFER DESCRIPTION

The research project aims to investigate, in Roman world between the Late Republic and the early third century. A.D., the intermediate bodies of society; the definition arises from the fact that, from the point of view of composition, they are characterized by their being an intermediate structure between the family, considered as the essential cell of social relations, and the city system. Furthermore, these groups can also be considered intermediate from the point of view of social composition: their members actually came mainly from what can be defined, with the Latin expression found in the evidence, the plebs media. The project aims to define the role of this organism in the Roman city which, even without being codified from an institutional point of view, seems to have been remarkable, but also to understand their various nature of aggregations that start from professional, religious, gender or common legal status issues.
