OFFER DESCRIPTION

The Institute for Classical Archeology at the University of Vienna is one of the largest institutions for the study of classical archaeology in Europe, and has a long tradition of research excellence. We conceive of classical archaeology as the study of material culture of the Ancient Mediterranean and surrounding regions.

The advertised position is assigned to the area of Greek Archaeology and offers excellent possibilities for interdisciplinary research and research-led career development. You will be expected to undertake research on your own independent project, in preparation for a Habilitation or as the equivalent of a post-doctoral book. In addition, you will contribute to teaching, and support the management of the Archaeological Collection – a museum-quality collection of sculptural plaster casts and original artefacts housed within the Institute.

The applications must be written in English or German and include:

· A cover letter (1-2 pages max);

· Academic curriculum vitae (including a list of publications, a list of courses and a list of talks given);

· Description of proposed research project (2-3 pages max);

· Contact details of 3 scholars who could provide a letter of reference (referees will be contacted only if the application is under closer consideration).

The position requires the active participation in research, teaching, and administration. This involves:
• Developing and strengthening of an independent research profile;
• Preparing/writing a habilitation thesis or research for a second book;
• Involvement in research projects related to Greek Archaeology;
• Support for management of the Institute’s Archaeological Collection (e.g. contribution to the organisation of public outreach events and temporary exhibitions; participation in a rota for supervising cleaning and conservation);
• Preparation of applications for independent projects and third-party funding;
• Independent teaching of students as defined by the collective agreement;
• Participation in, and supervision of students during fieldwork;
• Involvement in the department administration as well as in teaching and research administration. The position requires the active participation in research, teaching, and administration. This involves:
