OFFER DESCRIPTION

This study aims at tracing the historical development of the Greek perspectives on the East that sprang between the Age of Philip II and the generation of the so-called Epigons. In that time, as Greco-Macedonians were seizing Eastern territories and giving birth to new Hellenistic states, a need for imagining, interpreting, and approaching a brand-new world emerged. In other words, by taking on a historical perspective, this project research will outline the major changes that occurred in the Greek qualitative perception of the Asiatic space in the wake of Alexander’s Eastern expedition. In so doing, it will provide a history of the Greek tales on the East being produced - either spontaneously or consciously - before a commonly-shared cultural-geographical concept of the East could take place.
