announces the open call for Assistant Professor (post-doc) position in the research employees’ group

Place of work: Faculty of Humanities

Job location:  Pl. Sejmu Śląskiego 1, 40-032 Katowice

Applications to the contest may be submitted by those who meet the conditions defined in Art. 113 of the Act of 20 July 2018 – Law on Higher Education and Science (Journal of Laws of 2020, item 85, as amended).

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • conducting research on Byzantine zoology and the reception of ancient zoology in the Middle Byzantine period;
  • other duties arising from the regulations of the University of Silesia.

Eligibility criteria

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS:

  • resume (CV) and cover letter outlining experience and motivation,
  • copies of documents confirming your qualifications ( Ph.D. diploma or certificate granting the Ph.D. degree, and MA diploma or equivalent degree diploma),
  • list of publications,
  • other documentation confirming achievements in the scientific and didactic work.

Selection process

SCHEDULE OF THE CALL:

  • application submission deadline: 20th of November 2020 (11.59 p.m.)
  • the selection process will be concluded until the 10th of December 2020
  • the interview of the applicants will take place online (via MS Teams platform).

 

Additional comments

Applications received after the deadline, incomplete applications and applications submitted in any other way than defined in the open call announcement shall not be considered. The University reserves the right to leave the call unresolved.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

The necessary condition for employment of the candidate selected as a result of the call is their fulfillment of the obligations arising from Art. 265 section 4,5, and 13 of the Act of 20th of July 2018: Law on Higher Education and Science (Journal of Laws of 2020, item 85, as amended).

 

Foreign candidates, whose diplomas granting scientific degrees require nostrification according to Polish law can be employed only after fulfilling nostrification procedures.

Skills/Qualifications

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • PhD in Humanities granted maximum 7 years before the planned employment,
  • achievements in the discipline of Literary studies/History (or similar disciplines; in the case of foreign candidates: Byzantine philology, classics), including publications in recognized foreign journals,
  • knowledge of Byzantine literature (especially 10th-12th century), knowledge of the ancient zoological thought,
  • ability to write scholarly publications in English,
  • knowledge of ancient Greek, ability to read articles in conference languages.

Specific Requirements

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • readiness to share knowledge and experience with others,
  • ability to work in the research team,
  • self-reliance, good organizational skills,
  • pro-active attitude and initiative.
