Offer Description
This Project Manager will have the mission of coordinating the operational, administrative, and managerial activities of the “Maria de Maeztu” Unit of Excellent within the Department of Information and Communication Technologies at Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF). This will also require interacting with other departments and units within UPF, as well as with the newly launched Planetary Wellbeing initiative.
Technical skills and Key duties:
- Support the Scientific Director in the management and implementation of the unit’s strategic research programme, and in the timely reporting and delivery of all project commitments to the funding agency within the government of Spain.
- Carry out administration and management tasks involving communication between the different research areas within the unit, as well as communication with other departments and units within UPF, and with the Planetary Wellbeing initiative.
- Track all of the project-related costs together with UPF: distribution and transfer of funding, keeping records on spending and preparing financial reports for the funding agency and potential auditors.
- Support the organization of events associated with the unit’s strategic research programme, including research seminars.
- Schedule meetings, prepare agendas, circulate materials for the meetings and prepare their minutes.
- Engage in communication and promotion tasks related to the unit’s activities within the confines of the strategic research programme. This includes the management of online channels.
- Support the unit’s members in their day-to-day communication, management and research activities.

Requirements

- Bachelor Degree or equivalent
- A degree in engineering.
- Knowledge of the English language: level B2-MCER, through an official certificate.
- Knowledge of the Catalan language: level C-MCER, through an official certificate.
- Demonstrable experience (ten years minimum) in research management, including European and Spanish programmes, and not restricted only to engineering/technology.
- Availability to travel.
- Familiarity with open science, gender perspective in research, and the interaction between ethics and technology.
- Demonstrable experience organizing events and communicating with diverse audiences, technical and non-technical.
- Demonstrable experience dealing with industry, policy makers, and innovation ecosystems.
- A modicum of teaching experience and familiarity with educational environments.

Selection criteria:
The selection of the candidates will be made through evaluation of the curriculum and, where appropriate, with the carrying out a test and/or interview.
- Academic Training (0-20 punts/points).
- Professional experience and Adequacy to the proposed profile ( 0-60 punts/ points) Experience managing a “Maria de Maeztu” or “Severo Ochoa” unit will be highly regarded.

Experience and knowledge to be valued:
Given the need to get off the ground immediately, priority will be given to candidates having already managed a “Maria de Maeztu” or “Severo Ochoa” unit, and to candidates having experience with projects involving UPF as partner or coordinator.
