OFFER DESCRIPTION

The aim of this project is to investigate Finnboga saga ramma – a work customarily attributed to the so-called ‘post-classical’ Sagas of Icelanders/ younger Íslendingasögur – from within the codicological contexts in which it is preserved. The majority of saga texts have indeed been handed down to us in late medieval and early modern miscellanies in which various saga genres are attested. In recent scholarship on the Old Norse-Icelandic sagas the importance of viewing these works in terms of the material conditions in which they are disseminated has been highlighted. Thus, investigating them not just as single works but primarily as part of an intextual dialogue involving other texts in the manuscript can provide scholars with relevant clues as to how the texts making up the collection were read and understood. The fact that Finnboga saga ramma is preserved in two manuscripts (AM 132 fol. and AM 510 4º) allows for a comparison between two different codicological contexts.
