Offer Description

Dean of the Faculty of History of the University of Warsaw announces a call for candidates for a position of postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Ancient History, Faculty of History, University of Warsaw, in Sonata Bis NCN research project “Dionysian sacrifice and related rituals in myth, history, and in the grey area between the two”.

Full-time employment planned for 12 months.

Planned gross gross basic salary: 120,000 PLN per year.

Employment is possible from spring 2023.

 

Scope of work

1.Research on rituals in the context of ancient Greek cult of Dionysus, especially in the light of archaeological data and.

2. Participation in the analysis of the evidence collected.

3. Submission of at least one paper to a high-ranking international journal, discussing partial results of the research.

4. Dissemination of results of the project at international conferences and seminars.

5. Participation in the weekly team meetings (in person or via video communicators) discussing the work progress.

 

Description of responsibilities

1. Completing the research tasks of the project.

2. Regular presentation of obtained research results at workshops and scientific conferences.

3. Publication of results in international scientific journals and publications.

4. Participation in the organization of events related to the research project, such as conferences and workshops, both scientific and popularizing science.

5. Organizing and regularly participating in research team meetings; collaborating with the PI and other team members.

Essential criteria 

1. Ph.D. degree in Archaeology, History, Classics or related field obtained no earlier than 7years ago or a declaration that the candidate is expected to hold a Ph.D. degree on the day of starting the employment.

2. The candidate should not have been employed at the University of Warsaw during the period of two years prior to the potential employment resulting from the present call.

3. Experience with research relevant for the research project (religion, art, literature of ancient Greece) documented by relevant publications.

4. Modern languages: fluency in English, and ability to read in French/German/Italian are necessary. Polish and other modern languages will be an asset, but they are not essential.

Selection process

Application deadline: 10 February 2023.

The results will be announced by 28 February 2023, and candidates will be informed by e-mail.

After a formal assessment of the applications, the committee may make a preliminary evaluation of the applications and on this basis select a shortlist of candidates admitted to further stages of the procedure.

The recruitment process follows the procedure determined in the Statute of the University of Warsaw and the relevant rules of the University of Warsaw and Faculty of History.
