For a period of three years in the first phase with the legal status of temporary civil servant (Beamtenverhältnis auf Zeit), to be appointed as soon as possible. The tenure-track professorship is supported by the Federal/Länder program for the promotion of young scientists (tenure-track program). Universität Regensburg offers the prospect, upon positive tenure evaluation, of transferring to a permanent position as W2 grade professor with the legal status civil servant for life (Beamtenverhältnis auf Lebenszeit). Skills/Qualifications

Prerequisites for taking up the position are, in accordance with Art. 14 Bavarian University Staff Act (BayHSchPG), alongside the general conditions from public sector employment law, a completed university degree, pedagogic suitability, and particular aptitude for academic work, generally shown by a doctoral degree.

Specific Requirements

The successful candidate will represent the field of Public History in a broad and comprehensive manner, including the various substantive and methodological aspects of the public dissemination, perception, and application of history. In particular, this concerns questions and problems associated with cultures of remembrance, the politics of memory, the marketing of history, and tourism. We are also interested in the institutionalization and transmission of history through memorial and world heritage sites, documentation centres, and museums. We are looking for a candidate with proven ability in these fields of Public History, demonstrated by an above-average Ph.D. in History or Cultural Studies. The successful candidate is expected to contribute in an engaged and team-oriented way to the M.A. degree in “Public History and Culture” (“Public History und Kulturvermittlung”), the planned “Centre for the Comparative and Applied Study of Remembrance Cultures” (“Zentrum vergleichender und angewandter Erinnerungskultur”), and the university’s teacher training (Lehramtsstudium).
