OFFER DESCRIPTION

The Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Iceland invites applications for the position of assistant professor in electrical power engineering. One of the candidate's most important tasks is to build a graduate program in this field. The candidate is expected to teach introductory courses in electrical power engineering and related subjects, mentor graduate students, publish their research in peer-reviewed journal, and successfully compete for external research funding.

Iceland is an ideal venue for a variety of electrical power research. The majority of the energy produced in Iceland is renewable and is provided by hydropower and geothermal energy plants. Extensive developments have taken place in the utilization of renewable energy sources in recent years, and exciting projects lie ahead. The University of Iceland has, for years, been a leader in teaching and research on renewable energy in Iceland and has decided, together with the faculty, to further strengthen research-related postgraduate studies in renewable energy. The person who will be hired will play a vital role in that job.

 

Requirements

• Ph.D. in electrical power engineering or related fields.

• Good communication skills and the ability to build connections

• Good collaboration and flexibility in human interaction

• Research experience in the field and a foundation in making research collaborations

• University level teaching experience is preferred

The applicants should identify their most significant publications (up to eight publications) and submit a copy of each publication as a pdf file; for papers with multiple authors, the applicants should account for their own contribution to the work. The applicant must supply the name and contact information of three persons willing to provide a reference. Applications and documents not submitted online shall be submitted in duplicate to the University of Iceland Division of Science and Innovation, Sæmundargata 6, 101 Reykjavík.

The successful candidate will be hired for five years with the possibility of a permanent contract at the end of this period, cf. paragraph 3, Article 31 of the Regulation for the University of Iceland no. 569/2009.

Processing of applications, evaluation of applicants' competence and hiring shall be in accordance with the Act on Public Higher Education Institutions no. 85/2008 and the Regulation for the University of Iceland no. 569/2009. In accordance with Article 38 of the Regulation for the University of Iceland no. 569/2009, the rector may promote a new employee to the position of senior lecturer or professor if the individual in question meets requirements.

Salary and other benefits are according to the collective agreement between the Association of University Teachers and the Ministry of Finance.
