We are searching an Assistant Professor for 3 years with a start date at the beginning of January 2021 or as agreed. A trial period of six (6) months applies to all our new employees.
The position is closely connected to energy technology with an emphasis on energy production, in particular on control and management of energy generation systems. The task also covers the applications of control systems engineering in the field of electrical engineering, especially within the solutions for flexible electrical energy systems.
Energy production research focuses on flexible hybrid solutions, renewable fuels and their blends, fuel combustion quality, energy efficiency, and overall emissions reduction. With regard to flexible electricity systems, the research focuses on the utilization of renewable energy sources, energy storages, and demand response in electrical grids, including future micro-grids.
Implementing new solutions and connecting them to complex energy systems require advanced control and management systems.
The integration of energy production technologies into energy systems requires, among other things:
- intelligent internal combustion engine and power plant management systems
- modeling and simulation of control systems and their connection to production equipment
- hybrid applications.
Research challenges in the management of flexible electricity systems include:
- management of electricity generation and battery storage according to the needs of the electricity grid and market
- hierarchical control of the microelectric grid using distributed or centralized solutions
- control of power grid failures
- management of total solutions connecting different energy vectors.
All tasks are agreed in more detail in the Annual Work Plan. The annual working time for the Assistant professor is 1612 hours.
Position requires a relevant doctoral degree and the ability to conduct independently high-level scientific research on the specified area and teaching skills required for the task. We also value experience in international publishing.

The salary is based on the University Salary System for Teaching and Research Staff. The salary for an Assistant Professor is based on demand levels 5-6 (2967–3460 €/month). An additional personal salary component is paid based on work performance. An annual holiday bonus is paid to all employees in July. Each University of Vaasa employee automatically belongs to a pension scheme and the majority of the pension contributions are paid by the employer.
