OFFER DESCRIPTION

A long tradition of studies has focused on the political, diplomatic and military relations of Venice with the Mamluk Midle East, the Ottoman Empire and Persia, while many scholars have worked on the Venetian knowledge of the geography and cultures of Asia. Much less is known, however, on the circulation of people, goods and techniques in the vast Eurasian space connecting Venice and China through the Silk Roads from the 13th century to the end of the early modern period. This theme will be an the centre of our research,
which aims at analysing the economic, social and cultural connections between Venice and Asia in the context of the historiographical field of Global History.
