The research aims to identify the different expressions of the Greek documentary minuscule handwriting during the VII-IX in. centuries and to relate them to the different typologies of documents produced, in order to obtain information on the use, the diffusion and the function of this particular handwriting up to its promotion to the copy of books. We will also try to outline, at a both social and technical level, the category of Byzantine notarioi, who mastered this handwriting and decreed its definitive success in the book production. Particular attention will also be paid to the diffusion of the Greek minuscule handwriting in the late-antique and early medieval Mediterranean, with a particular interest in the Latin and Coptic areas.
