The Gustaf Dalman Institute (old institute within University’s tradition, not an institute due to paragraph 92 (1) of the LHG) is a collection of artifacts that is unique in Europe. It was established in 1920: the institute comprises folklore and natural history pieces, archaeological and photographic evidence. They document the cultural landscape of Palestine around 1900. Today, academic scholars from all over the world benefit from this cross-disciplinary approach. In terms of its international visibility and the maintenance and preparation of its diverse holdings, the institute has benefited significantly in recent years through the work of a third-party funded curator, which is why the position should now become a permanent post. The proportionate connection to the professorship of the chair for Old Testament at the Theological Faculty results from the responsibility of the professor for Old Testament as a managing director at the Gustaf Dalman Institute.
The custodian position is responsible for the virtual and analog communication of the Dalman collection: from cultural events to public relations and online presence. The task profile therefore includes provenance research, digitization and database work, conservation-restoration and curatorial questions. The position is (including 4 hours of teaching per week) firmly integrated into the teaching at the Faculty of Theology - with focus on an examination of realia of the cultural landscape of Palestine. In the future, an image-didactic media pool (mainly from the historical photo collection) will be developed. Furthermore, establishing contacts and networking with other international collections are expected.
Furthermore: excellent knowledge of English, diverse experiences in dealing with analog and digital camera technology, knowledge in dealing with MS Office and the relevant layout programs.
The University would like to increase the proportion of women in areas in which they are underrepresented and thus applications from women are particularly welcome and will be treated with priority if they have the same qualifications and as long as there are no clear reasons which make a fellow applicant more suitable.
Preference will be given to severely disabled applicants if they can provide equal qualifications.
This job advertisement is directed at all persons, regardless of gender.
Please take note of § 68(3) PersVG M-V.
