On 3rd January 2019 the Croatian Science Foundation published the Call for Proposals for the “Research Cooperability Programme“, which is a Programme for Cooperation with Croatian scientists in diaspora. The purpose of the Programme is to transfer knowledge, attract investments primarily to the science and technology system of the Republic of Croatia and indirectly to the business sector through the cooperation between scientists from Croatia and scientists from diaspora. The ultimate goal of the Programme is to contribute to the employment of early-stage researchers and encourage networking with researchers in diaspora. The project “Biology of cytomegalovirus infection in developing brain and latency” is funded from the „Research Cooperability Programme“ of the Croatian Science Foundation which is funded by the European Union, from the European Social Fund under the Operational Programme Efficient Human Resources 2014-2020.

 

The Agreement for the funding of the project “Biology of cytomegalovirus infection in developing brain and latency” concluded between the Croatian Science Foundation, University of Rijeka Faculty of Medicine and project principal investigator Assistant Professor Ilija Brizić, foresees the recruitment of a postdoctoral researcher on the project.

 

In accordance with aforementioned, University of Rijeka Faculty of Medicine, Rijeka, Croatia is seeking a highly motivated person for the position of postdoctoral researcher on the project “Biology of cytomegalovirus infection in developing brain and latency”.

Place of work: Center for Proteomics, University of Rijeka Faculty of Medicine, Braće Branchetta 20, 51000 Rijeka, Croatia

Contract duration: up to 24 months

The maximum duration of the financing of the postdoctoral salary from the State Budget, i.e. HRZZ funds, shall not exceed a total of four years. If the postdoctoral researcher has previously been employed in an associate title of postdoctoral researcher, the total salary funding period shall not exceed four years, including employment under a project funded under the Research Cooperability Programme. Exceptionally, it is possible to accept the financing of candidates who have previously been financed by international project funds, but the total postdoctoral training including the requested financing of the salary by the HRZZ must not exceed six years.

Postdoctoral researcher can be employed on HRZZ-funded projects at most two times (on two different projects). A person who has been working as a researcher for up to ten years (since the enrolment in the doctoral studies) can be recruited for the position of postdoctoral researcher.

The period may be extended depending on maternity/parental leave or long-term illness, before or after obtaining a PhD.

The postdoctoral candidate will be employed with the corresponding complexity coefficient (1,600) in accordance with the Regulation on job titles and complexity coefficients in public services.

Skills/Qualifications

Required qualifications and other conditions:

  • in accordance with the provisions of the Science and Higher Education Act of the Republic of Croatia and general acts of the University of Rijeka and Faculty of Medicine on selection of candidates for scientific-teaching, teaching and associate positions
  • possession of a doctoral degree in the field of natural sciences (molecular biology or biochemistry), biomedicine and health (medicine, veterinary medicine) or biotechnology (molecular biotechnology)
  • at least three years of scientific work experience
  • fluency in English language
  • advanced IT skills

Additional criteria:

  • previous recognition and awards for excellence in research
  • participation in scientific research, publications, presentations at scientific conferences
