The MTG is looking to hire a Post-doc to start in October.

This position is part of the project NextCore (Call: Retos-Colaboración 2019 del Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación; project no. RTC2019-007248-7) coordinated by our spin-off Company BMAT and in which the MTG will work on developing technologies to improve the current state of the art in automatic music monitoring. In particular the goal is to work on deep learning architectures specific for this problem, being able to improve the music detection by pre-processing the captured audio signals in situations like when the music is in the background or when the recording is of low quality, and to investigate new architectures for scalable music cover detection.

The Post-doc will will involve working at MTG-UPF in Barcelona and be responsible to carry out the research of this project, in close collaboration with other researchers of the MTG and with BMAT.

Required skills/qualifications:

PhD Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or equivalent, with a PhD thesis dedicated to a topic related to this project

Research experience in deep learning, source separation and automatic music monitoring

Experience in the design and development of music audio signal analysis, processing, and classification algorithms

Proficiency in software development using Python, C++, Git, and Docker

Experience in Linux, including scripting

Ability to work and deliver autonomously while being a part of a team

Preferred skills/experience:

Experience developing audio signal processing and machine learning algorithms in an industrial context

Experience using Essentia or similar audio analysis software

Knowledge or interest in music technology and music theory

Being passionate about writing clean code

ABOUT MTG-UPF: The Music Technology Group (MTG) of the Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona, part of its Department of Information and Communication Technologies, carries out research on topics such as audio signal processing, music information retrieval, musical interfaces, and computational musicology. The MTG wants to contribute to the improvement of the information and communication technologies related to sound and music, carrying out competitive research at the international level and at the same time transferring its results to society. To that goal, the MTG aims at finding a balance between basic and applied research while promoting interdisciplinary approaches that incorporate knowledge and methodologies from both scientific/technological and humanistic/artistic disciplines.
