The BSIO is a joint graduate school of the Charité University Hospital, Humboldt University, Free University and several non-university research institutions in Berlin and was founded within the Excellence Initiative of the German federal state and governments. We are fully dedicated to cancer research in an international context and aim at elucidating the individual molecular tumor and patient characteristics via advanced experimental cancer models and novel cancer diagnostics. It is our central mission to introduce young natural scientists to the most demanding problems in clinical oncology and, in turn, to stimulate young research-interested clinicians to translate unsolved clinical challenges into experimentally approachable questions, ultimately leading to their mechanistic explanation.
