One post-doctoral position is available to work on a research project based in the Department of Sedimentary and Environmental Geology of University of São Paulo’s Institute of Geoscience (GSA/IGc/USP), in the city of São Paulo, Brazil.
The select candidate is expected to:
a) Collect sediment cores from a series of lakes, palaeochannels and artificial canals in close proximity to archaeological sites in Southwest Amazonia;
b) Undertake pollen, charcoal, lithological, and geochemical analyses of these cores to reconstruct late Holocene vegetation, land-use, and fire histories;
c) Liaise closely with the other PDRAs and Co-PIs in the HERCA project to effectively integrate different types of palaeoenvironmental and archaeological data and help organise project workshops and fieldtrips;
d) Submit results for publication in several leading international journals and present results at conferences;
e) Be responsible for the day-to-day management of the tropical palaeoecology laboratory and neotropical pollen reference collection;
f) Assist with the supervision of undergraduate, MSc and PhD student projects,
g) Play an active, collaborative role within the department and school (workshops, seminars, etc.)
This opportunity is open to candidates of any nationalities. The selected candidate will receive a Post-Doctoral fellowship from the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) in the amount of R$ 7,373.10 monthly and a research contingency fund, equivalent to 15% of the annual value of the fellowship which should be spent in items directly related to the research activity.
