OFFER DESCRIPTION

A funded PhD position is available in the recently-established Transcriptional Dynamics in Leukemia lab led by Dr Sergi Cuartero. Using a combination of genome-wide approaches, advanced microscopy imaging and single-cell technologies, the team investigates how mutations in epigenetic modifiers and transcription factors contribute to leukaemia development. We are located in the brand-new building of the Josep Carreras Leukaemia Research Institute (IJC), a top research institute in the Barcelona area and a highly stimulating scientific environment.

We are looking for a highly-motivated PhD student to investigate the molecular basis of acute megakaryoblastic leukaemia, a rare type of myeloid leukaemia. The project will elucidate how transcription factors and 3D genome organizers control normal megakaryocytic gene expression and how their mutations trigger leukaemia. The project will involve both experimental biology and bioinformatic analyses. Therefore, applicants will have a strong background in molecular biology and practical experience in either experimental biology (wet lab) or bioinformatics (dry lab). Excellent communication skills, creative thinking and fluent English are a prerequisite.

What we offer

  • A 4-year funded PhD position starting in September/October 2020
  • An exciting and innovative research project.
  • Incorporation in a multinational and highly collaborative team.
  • Working in the mixed basic and clinical research environment of the Josep Carreras Leukaemia Research Institute.

Who we are?

Our mission is to carry out research into the basic, epidemiological, preventive, clinical and translational aspects of leukaemia and other hematologic malignancies.

The vision of the Josep Carreras Leukaemia Research Institute is that research will identify new therapeutic targets and enable us to develop more precise and less aggressive treatments. We aspire to understand the origin and development of leukaemia and other malignant haematological pathologies in order to be able to prevent them. We will work for a future in which all leukaemias will be curable.
