OFFER DESCRIPTION

Within the framework of the AlchemEast project, two 1-year positions (extendable) are offered to candidates wishing to focus
their own research on the chemical arts and/or on alchemy in the Near Eastern world, with particular attention to one of the following topics: either (1) Babylonian proto-chemistry, with particular attention to Sumerian and Akkadian sources dealing with the chemical arts in the ancient Near East; or (2) the penetration and early developments of alchemy in the Arabo-Islamic world, with particular attention to Arabic alchemical writings attributed to Graeco-Egyptian alchemists or on Arabic alchemical treatises that were influenced by the Graeco-Egyptian and Byzantine traditions.
