Laboratory of Physics and Cell Biology at the National Institute of Genetics seeks a highly motivated postdoctoral scientist to conduct research with the principal investigator, Dr. Yuta Shimamoto.
The laboratory focuses on elucidating the physical properties of the nucleus and their relationship to cellular function. Nuclear mechanics is an emerging field in biology as it is recognized to be important for diverse biological processes, such as cell migration, differentiation, and cell death. The loss of nuclear integrity is linked to diseases such as cancer and Laminopathy. We use a combination of biophysics, cell biology, and materials science to study how the nucleus generates and responds to physical forces while maintaining structural and functional integrity.
The successful applicant will participate in projects on elucidating the molecular basis of nuclear mechanics regulation in mouse embryos. The position will also be involved in other projects related to nuclear mechanics of disease models. The posted position will be in part supported by a MEXT grant (Scientific Research on Innovative Areas).
