OFFER DESCRIPTION

The project is aimed at the reconstruction of the main settlements in the Samarkand region, with a focus on the study of the irrigation system and pastoralism. The research will focus on the archaeological evidence related to the agro-pastoral strategies in the area (settlements, necropolis, canals), between the Achaemenid period (VI-IV century BC) and the Middle Ages (XVI century). In addition to the available studies, the researcher will be able to count on the amount of data collected by the Italo-Uzbek Archaeological Project "Samarkand and His Territory" - PAIU, born in 2001 from the collaboration between the University of Bologna and the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan. The researcher must be able to combine techniques of remote sensing and field surveys with the stratigraphic excavation of contexts considered useful for the knowledge of some thematic or chronological aspects and will also have to integrate the research's results with PAIU WebGIS archaeological evidence
