OFFER DESCRIPTION
The Department of Physiology (head: Prof. Dr. Marlene Bartos) at the University Freiburg (Medical Faculty) offers a PhD position for 2-Photonimaging of the hippocampal area CA3. The position is part of an EU-funded innovative Training network euSNN (“European School of Network Neuroscience”) with full-time employment for a duration of 3 years. The euSNN Innovative Training Network (http://eusnn.eu <http://eusnn.eu/>) has the key goal to train students who want to pursue a successful career in the emerging field of network neuroscience in an interdisciplinary fashion. The euSNN training program aims to improve the understanding of dynamics and connectivity of brain networks in the healthy and disease state. It offers a unique combination of experimental, analysis and modelling approaches. The proposed project aims to investigate the influence of Mossy Fiber synapses originating from Principal cells in the Dentate Gyrus onto the activity of CA3 Principal cells and GABAergic interneurons of mice exposed to a virtual reality. The equipment, data analytical tools and support are in place. The PhD student will join an existing team with extensive knowledge in 2-Photon imaging, behavioral analysis and a broad set of in vivo and in vitro electrophysiological techniques as well as nice working atmosphere and working relationships.
