OFFER DESCRIPTION
A research team led by Prof. Kong Ooi Tan will be established starting Sept 2020 in LBM at ENS Paris, and we have an opening PhD position to be filled. The PhD project will focus on methods development for pulsed and CW Dynamic Nuclear Polarization (DNP) at either static or magic angle spinning (MAS) condition on solid samples. The PhD candidate will build an EPR instrument that allows the characterization of DNP radicals for optimum enhancement factors, and its’ interaction with the targeted samples. Candidate with experience in rf and microwave engineering is highly desirable. In collaboration with the Institute of Porous Materials (IMAP) group at ENS, we will apply the DNP technique to study low-gamma nuclei in metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) using both MAS and dissolution DNP spectrometers. The position is supervised by Prof. Kong Ooi Tan and Dr. Daniel Abergel, and the research project will be supported by experienced research engineers in the group UMR 7203. Our lab houses a unique combination of an 800 MHz/ 527 GHz MAS-DNP spectrometer, a 600 MHz, a 400 MHz, and two dissolution-DNP polarizers (a Bruker prototype at 6.7 T/ 188 GHz and a home-built cryogen-free system at 9.4 T/ 263 GHz). Moreover, we have access to NMR spectrometers that belong to the national high field NMR facilities (IR-RMN-THC).
