Post Doc project
We are seeking a post doc researcher (1 to 2 years) to develop the use of Zn isotopes to trace sea food consumption in archaeological contexts. This includes sample collection, analysis, methodological development and publication. We are particularly interested in candidates able and who can interact with archaeologists and geochemists within the GET-OMP and outside. The post doc project will investigate Zn isotope ratios and CSIA of amino acids in teeth and bones of animals and humans associated to specific aquatic food consumption (marine mammals, fish) increasing our capacity to identify the role maritime diets had in the course of the evolution of coastal adaptive strategies.

The Géosciences Environnement Toulouse/CNRS of the Observatoire Midi Pyrénées (GET-OMP), Toulouse (France) invites applications for a post doc position in archeological sciences/ geochemistry to explore the potential of non-traditional isotopic studies in unveiling human past behavior (ERC funding, ARCHEIS project). In the GET, geological and environmental research is conducted within a multidisciplinary environment involving groups of scientists including biologists, physicists, chemists and geologists, with theoretical or experimental approaches. Isotope mass spectrometry forms a significant component of the OMP with a well-equipped laboratory. More information about the GET-OMP can be found on the website. The project ERC currently gathers one PI (Klervia Jaouen), one PhD student and one research engineer, with whom the post doc will be able to collaborate

Eligibility criteria

• Completed university degree in geosciences or archaeology (geochemistry, archaeological sciences, stable isotope studies).
• Knowledge of mass spectrometry and column chromatography and/or collagen extraction is desirable.
• Knowledge of tooth development and zooarcheology are appreciable.
• Proficiency in English. Knowledge of Spanish and/or French is a plus.

Additional comments

The post doc project has for contect the ERC project ARCHEIS (Starting grant, 803676). This project aims at developping novel isotope tracers of prehistorical diets, especially for marine food consumption.
