The Laboratory of Environmental Toxicology at NICPB in Tallinn is a leading institution studying the safety of different chemicals, engineered nanoparticles and environmental samples. It applies a multidisciplinary toolbox of microbiology, ecotoxicology, in vitro cell cultures, molecular biology and analytical chemistry. The Lab was one of the first worldwide to research ecotoxicology of metal oxide nanoparticles (since 2006).
The NICPB and the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Innovative Training Network (MSCA-ITN) project “Best chemical risk assessment professionals for maximum Ecosystem Services benefit (PRORISK)” offers an Early Stage Researcher (PhD Student) position:
“ESR2 - The influence of abiotic factors on exposure” hosted at NICPB.
The period of appointment for the ESR is 36 months, starting 1st September 2020 or as soon as possible thereafter.
The ESR will receive a contract of employment as a full-time researcher for the relevant period of their appointment, which will include applicable benefits in the host country. The ESR will complete a comprehensive personalized career development programme, with targeted training measures and participate in a range of network events. The ESR will benefit from interdisciplinary cooperation and interaction within the network, providing the best preparation for a successful career in either academia or industry.
MSCA fellowships for ESRs provide salaries in line with H2020-MSCA-ITN-2019 call. Additional allowances for mobility and family (if applicable) are provided. Further information at www.prorisk-itn.eu.

At the date of recruitment the applicants for the MSCA fellowship must have no PhD and less than 4 years of full-time equivalent research experience from the award of the degree that entitles them to undertake a doctorate (either in the country in which the degree was obtained or in the country in which the applicant is to be recruited).
The applicants must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Estonia for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately before the recruitment date. Short stays, such as holidays, are not taken into account.
These eligibility requirements are non-negotiable and ineligible applicants will not be considered.

ESR2 will be hosted at the NICPB (Tallinn, Estonia) and co-supervised by NIVA (Oslo, Norway). Planned secondment(s): NIVA, M18, 2 months, in vitro studies and chemical analysis; NIVA, M24, toxicogenomic studies; DuPont, M28, 2 months, chemical analysis.
ESR2 will be enrolled in the doctoral programme of Tallinn University.
REQUIRED EDUCATION LEVELEnvironmental science: Master Degree or equivalent
The applicant must have a Master’s degree in biology, environmental sciences or other relevant field with knowledge and experience in experimental biological/chemical laboratory research.
A good command of English language, with excellent oral and written skills is essential (i.e. overall International English Language Testing Service (IELTS) grade of 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 in each component, or equivalent).
