OFFER DESCRIPTION

The candidate has to present a research project on the development of the ancient economy, following the unification of the Mediterranean World made by the Roman Empire. More precisely, he/she will have to investigate the relationship between the development of the credit system and the transformations occurred in the ancient Roman economy. Focus of the research will be the role of the credit on one side, as a mean to increase the amount of available money within the empire, on the other side as a device to foster the commerce, used to overcome the shortcomings of cash money in particular situations (lack of cash, long distance trade, etc). Special attention will be devoted to the role of the credit in international transactions
