    H2020 / SME Innovation Associate

Policy Lab OÜ, Estonia, is inviting applications for a postdoctoral research fellow, who will contribute to the development of a novel Industrial Competitiveness Atlas that combines frontier research in economics, advanced data science, data visualization and storytelling in order to foster the transition to green growth. Packaging economic development, environmental and energy consumption data, and extensive research in coherent stories and appealing visuals will make data more relatable and actionable. This will advise scenario analysis and strategy development at the level of specific industries and the whole economies.

This is a one-year role suited to postdoctoral researcher in data science (or equivalent), with extensive experience in working with open and big data, and interest in globalisation, development economics and green growth strategy for Europe.

The prospective candidate will join Policy Lab full-time through the European SME innovation Associate funding programme (INNOSUP-02-2019-2020). This is a fixed-term employment for 12 months starting in Q3 2020.

Relocation costs of the researcher and his/her immediate family to Estonia will be covered.

Selection process

(1) Interested Candidates are required to email their CV along with a motivational letter (1 page) and at least one reference to job@policy-lab.eu by 15 May 2020 17:00 CET;

(2) Applications will be reviewed, and selected candidates will be shortlisted and notified by 22 May 2020;

(3) Shortlisted candidates will be invited for a two-round interview process in late May / early June 2020, subject to the award of INNOSUP-02-2019-2020 grant by the EU;

(4) The candidates will be notified of the results of the selection process by 15 June 2020; (5) The candidate will be offered the research contract with a tentative starting date on 1 September 2020.

This, along with the training that will be offered by the EU, will offer numerous opportunities for acquisition of new skills and further career development. Skills/Qualifications

The applicant will bring in a wide range of skills, including experience in data science, cloud computing and new analytical skills to inform audiences about.

PhD in computational sciences, software engineering or similar;

Advanced programming experience, including experience with Python (mandatory);

Hands-on experience on development of ML models for analysing time series (preferable);

Experience with TensorFlow (or similar) in developing, testing, debugging ML models (preferable);

Hands-on experience on configuration of cloud computing systems for ML (preferable);

Experience with development and use of REST/JSON APIs for ML (preferable);

Fluency in English as working language (mandatory);

Strong communication and writing skills. 

Specific Requirements

Applicant must not have resided or carried out his/her work or studies in Estonia for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately before the current appointment.
